After living for the last few months in Europe, I’ve finally understood why those not living in temperate and warm climates have to switch up their skincare in Winter. My skin tends to behave pretty similarly all year round in sunny LA, so I haven’t had to be overly concerned about my winter beauty routine. As it turns out, cold weather really does have an effect on my skin and I’ve definitely had to make some room for some more nourishing and hydrating members of my skincare team. Through all this experimentation, I’ve found some true Winter wonders that I’d love to share.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré ($16): The best way I can describe this product is as if a rich moisturizer and a primer had a baby. It feels thick and luxurious as you blend it into the skin, but absorbs quickly and creates a beautiful base for makeup. This product not only provides lasting hydration and preps the skin for foundation, but it also really adds to the longevity of your makeup. It’s totally a must have if you’re looking for a beautiful primer with some serious hydrating power.
Bully Rose Hip Facial Oil (similar): I’ve been a huge fan of facial oils for a couple of years now. I am a true believer that using an oil on oily skin helps fight breakouts and clogged pores by helping to balance out your skin’s sebum (oil) production. Obviously, if you have a drier skin type your skin will love nourishing facial oils as well. Currently, I’ve been enjoying this rose hip oil because it is easily absorbed into the skin and it contains vitamin E which helps prevent blemishes and heal scars. It also fights against aging with vitamin A!
Lush Lip Scrub in Mint Julips ($10.95): Who doesn’t love a good lip scrub, especially one that you can eat to freshen your breath. In Winter, I often get the driest and flakey lips…I know gross, but this lip scrub is often my only savior. It gently removes the dead skin, prepping them perfectly for lip balm or lipstick.
Vaseline ($2.67): I feel this this is one of those overlooked multi-use products that is easy to forget about or replace with something more luxurious. But to be honest, this little wonder product is one of the only lip balms that will actually last throughout the night on me and leave me with hydrated, smooth, and full lips in the morning. When I apply my nightly skincare, I like to include my lips (they’re skin too!) and then slather on some vaseline based lip balm to seal in moisture. This is a winter must have for anyone else who suffers from dry lips.
L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil ($33): This is my dry winter hair life saver! Although I have an oily scalp, my long hair often suffers with dry lengths and ends leading to breakage and split ends. This fast absorbing oil is light enough to keep my fine hair bouncy and full of volume, but nourishing enough to add tones of shine, hydration, and protection from damage and dryness. I can’t live without this stuff. I use it on both towel dried hair before I blow dry (or lets be honest, let it air dry because I’m lazy) and also on second or third day hair for a burst of moisture and shine. This is also one of my favorite products to finger comb through my hair after I curl it, because it separates the curls beautifully and controls frizz.
Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Liquid Lipstick ($37): This is a pretty new discovery for me, but I knew it was love the first time I used it. This liquid lipstick is beautiful and super pigmented! Unlike a lot of super matte liquid lipsticks this one has more of a satin finish, which I love because it’s not drying and doesn’t cling or emphasize dryness on the lips. In the Winter, I’m often drawn to deeper and rich shades, so I adore this particular shade 152 Choquant. I totally recommend checking out their whole range because I want all the shades.
Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose Fragrance ($25): To be honest, I’m not a huge perfume person, so it can be tough for me to find a scent that I’m in love with, especially in Winter. I’m generally in a bit of a rut after the holiday season ends, but this Fall I was thrilled to learn that Elizabeth & James had expanded their fragrance range. During Winter, I love a rich, musky, sexy sent that has a little bit of freshness throw in there as well and I’d say that Nirvana Rose is the one for me. It perfectly blends the musky-ness of the Nirvana Black with the freshness of rose, creating my ideal scent! If you are looking for a new fragrance, definitely check out the whole line from Elizabeth & James; I love them all!
Tanya Burr Nail Polish ($6.40): Last but not least, I have nail polishes to finish off my Winter beauty essentials. Nail polish follows the same vein as lipstick for me and I usually gravitate to richer darker hues such as burgundies or mauve-y greys and greens during this season. This one by Tanya Burr is one of the best burgundy nail polish shades I’ve come across. This nail polish is pretty comparable in formula to essie; it lasts on my hands for 3-4 days (pretty standard for me) and is thin but pigmented. This little guy has been my most warn polish of this season. Also, isn’t the packaging lovely!
I hope you enjoyed this little Winter Beauty Essentials post! I love writing these posts and sharing all my current loves with you all. Please let me know what your beauty essentials are! I’m looking for some new lovelies to add to my wishlist! Also, let me know if you’re heading to IMATS this weekend. I’m going to be there and I’m so excited!
