What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag

When it comes to my travel makeup routine, I try to keep it as simple as possible. I limit it all to some of the bare essentials for the day and a few items to transition my look into a more glamorous nighttime look. When packing my makeup bag, I usually stick to my favorite products for my base, things that I can depend on for wear, coverage, and comfort. For this trip, I brought a sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer for my face and my Nars pro-prime smudge proof eyeshadow base. For my oily skin, good primers are really important to increase the longevity of my makeup. Also, traveling is the perfect time to test out those sample sizes you’ve been collecting. They don’t take up much space and it’s always fun to get the opportunity to try something new. For my foundation, I selected my Chanel Perfection Lumère Velvet foundation for light-to-medium build-able coverage. This foundation lasts all day and helps keep oil at bay with its more matte finish. For concealer, I grabbed my Nars Creamy Concealer and my Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection ConcealerThe Nars concealer is my holy grail concealer for my under-eye area. It covers my dark circles flawlessly and gives a long-wear finish that doesn’t crease. I use the Collection 2000 concealer all over my face to cover any discoloration or blemishes. To cover any discoloration on my eyelids and give an even base for eyeshadow, I brought my MAC Pro-longwear Paintpot in the color soft ochre. I wear this product almost every day even without eyeshadow. I think the yellow tone really helps brighten my eyes and make me look more awake. To set my whole face, I grabbed my MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural.

For my eyes I always bring my favorite mascara, Tarte Lights Camera Flashes, and Kat Van D ink liner pin for winged liner; I also bring a black pencil for my waterline. For an easy effortless eye look I have a Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color cream shadow stick in Moonlight. Because I can never forget my brows, I have an Anastasia Brow Wiz and a Benefit Gimme Brow to fill in and set my brows. The hardest thing for me to limit when traveling is eyeshadow. I usually grab a small neutral palette with different lid colors and a good matte brown crease shade; I chose the MAC Amber Times Nine Eyeshadow Palette. These nine colors are perfect to create quite a few different eye looks, from a purple or brown smoky eye for a night out or a neutral creamy champagney look for the daytime.

I usually bring just a few products for my cheeks. Since I was focused on the longevity of my makeup, I grabbed some cream products for my cheeks. I used this trip as an opportunity to try the new smashbox step by step contour stick trio I had recently purchased. I love these creamy pencils to create either a structured contour or a blended out bronzy look. I brought one blush by Nars called Sin. This is a plummy shade that has really complimented my fairer skin tone in these recent colder months.

Lastly, I have my lip products, another area I tend to go a bit overboard with. Because these products are small, I didn’t feel overly guilty about packing a few extra. I always travel with my YSL Rouge Volupté Shine lipstick in the color #9, Private. This is my go-to nude lipstick that I love wearing with a dark smokey eye. I also bring a good chapstick; my favorite lately has been the Fresh Sugar untinted sugar lip treatment and I had this product in a smaller sample size, perfect for travel. I also grabbed two Nars lip pencils: Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien and the Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella. My last lip product is a Trish McEvoy Essential Lip Pencil in the shade Nude. This semi-matte pencil has a darker rose hue that is really beautiful when worn in the day time or when paired with a smokey eye at night. The final item in my makeup bag is the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Perfume in a rollerball.
