As I’ve said before, I am the cliche that says Fall is her favorite season. But to be perfectly honest, there’s a lot to like about Fall. This season is a favorite, not only for the weather and the holidays but for the fashions as well. When I think of Autumn, the colors that come to mind are deep burgundies, rich oranges, brick reds, and brown-y olives. These earthy tones are some of my favorites because they are so flattering, especially on my hazel eyes.
September, being a transition month, has seen a lot of changes in terms of my makeup routine. Over the month I’ve begun to swap out Summer favorites for more and more Fall staples. By now, my makeup bag hardly resembles that of August and I’ve felt inspired to get more creative with my makeup.
My September Makeup Bag
I’ve organized this list by feature: face, cheeks, eyes, and lips.
Face | For my base, I’ve been loving the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. This year-long staple never leaves my makeup bag thanks to its beautiful finish and barely-there feel. I’ve also been loving the Chanel Les Beiges foundation which is a higher coverage foundation with a natural finish. For my concealer, I haven’t touched anything but the Nars Soft Matte Concealer since I purchased it. Its coverage is incredible and its satin finish looks great both concealing blemishes and dark circles. To set my concealer, I’ve been using the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening powder to add some radiance and glow to my complexion.
Cheeks | I have two go-to blushes that haven’t left my side each Fall for a few years now. The Nars blushes in Goulue and Sin look so beautiful during this time of year and match wonderfully with a deep lip without competing with it. In terms of contour, I gravitate towards cream products such as L’Oreal Infallible sculpt contouring palette and the Soleil Tan de Chanel because they look more natural when paired with heavier foundations than powder formulas.
Eyes | For my lashes, I’ve been using the YSL Faux Cils Mascara for a month or two now and I’ve been enjoying it. It can transfer a bit on my eyelid, so I make sure to use a matte powder there to help prevent this. I’ve also pulled out my Make Up For Ever Aqua XL eyeliners in some amazing rich hues: a deep brown, bronze, & olive shade. These are great to use as a base for eyeshadow or to smudge out on your lashline for an effortlessly sexy smokey look. I like my brows a bit bushy and volumized during this time of year so I’ve been using the Maybelline Brow Precise. Its comb helps you tease your brows for big feathery volume.
Lips| This year I’ve been loving rich glossy hues on the lips. My favorite way to achieve this is with the L’Oreal Infallible lip paint in Sangria. But because they’ve got a small color range, I’ve also been choosing my favorite liquid lipsticks for saturated color, such as the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in choquant, layered with Smith’s Rosebud Balm to give it a glossy sheen.
I’ve been really happy with this combination of autumnal products. As Fall descends, I’ll continue to give updates on what pieces I’m adding to my makeup bag.
