The Best Foundations for Oily Skin

The Best Foundations for Oily Skin | A La Gray

Ever since my teen years, I’ve had acne prone and extraordinarily oily skin. The half way through the day, wipe the grease off your face oily. Thankfully, over the years I’ve come up with various solutions to help reduce the oiliness of my skin and prevent myself looking like a disco ball by the end of the day. One of the easiest ways to combat oily skin is to select the right foundation. I need one that absorbs oil while still giving me the finish and coverage I’m looking for. After sifting through my rather large collection of foundations, I’ve selected my top 5 best foundations for oily skin.

Matte Finishes

Bases with matte finishes are definitely my go-to foundations for oily skin. With an oil absorbing powdery finish, these foundations are perfect to keep you fresh faced and shine free all day. If I’m looking for a base that will look flawless all day long, I almost always choose matte.

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ Foundation | This foundation was one of my first favorite foundations. This high coverage base has a moussey texture that blends seamlessly into the skin. But this is not your traditional flat matte finish. This foundation has a soft and velvety finish that looks flawless without eliminating your skin’s natural radiance.

Chanel Perfection Lumère Velvet Foundation | This is the lightest of all the foundations I’m mentioning, making it perfect for day-to-day wear. This one is a favorite because it has such a liquidy texture that allows it to blend effortlessly into the skin. It has medium coverage but can be built up or thinned out depending on how you apply it. It also dries down to an almost powdery matte finish, perfect for all day wear.

Natural and Satin Finishes

I’m a huge fan of natural and satin finishes, especially for special occasions or a night out. They are perfect when I’m looking for a bit more radiance in the complexion. Thankfully, these guys still hold up really well against oily skin.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation | This foundation is particularly interesting because it crosses the line between matte and natural finishes.  Having a satin finish, it is perfect for a look where you want to highlight the complexion. It has a thicker, moussey texture which gives it longevity as well as having medium to high coverage. I recommend using a denser foundation brush to help make this base look super flawless.

Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick | Stick foundations are some of my favorites thanks to their ease of use. With its super creamy and blendable texture, this Bobbi Brown one is no different. I gravitate to this foundation when I’m looking for a natural, radiant look. It also has medium, but buildable coverage, so you can apply it just where you need it.

Dewy Finishes

I had always just accepted that dewy finishes were simply not compatible with my oily skin. Thankfully I was wrong. This is a perfect glowy foundation for oily skin.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation | This has been my most recent foundation discovery.  This medium coverage foundation has a glowy finish that absorbs oil and lasts all day. It doesn’t stop there. It’s also drugstore! Is it too good to be true? Shockingly no! It was my go-to foundation all Fall and Winter when my skin needed a little more life.

Hopefully, this helped all you guys with skin as oily as mine. Maybe you won’t have to test out as many foundations as I have in order to find one that perfectly suits your needs. What is your favorite foundation for oily skin? Please let me know in the comments below. I would love to test some more out!
