I tend to go through a lot of fazes in my makeup style and application, and seasonal changes are a huge reflection of this. Recently, I’ve been loving the look of flawless, bronzed and glowing skin with a pop of color on the cheeks. I have been going more minimalist on the eyes with a nude liner in my waterline and thick volumized lashes and brows. No shadow! This is definitely a huge change for me since I’ve been a huge eye shadow devotee for years. The best way I’d sum up my Spring makeup style has to be perfected minimalist, because I’m still a huge fan of a flawless base, but I’ve been gravitating to a more natural finish and subtly playing up my favorite features.
There are two products that have really inspired this look. Firstly, a new addition to my (never changing) mascara collection, the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils. I’ve heard a lot about this mascara, but never imagined it actually being this good. The formula gives you such dense volume at the roots of the lashes, but also lengthens and gives a light fluttery look at the tips! I’m such a huge fan. The only downside that I’ve noticed with this mascara is that the lengthening effect can kind of disappear by the end of the day. Thankfully a little touch up is all it takes to bring back the drama.
My other favorite, which has been the inspiration for my fixation on a healthy glow, is the newest Benefit boxed blush, Galifornia. I’ve reached for this coraly-pink blush every single day this past month. It’s the perfect Spring flush for the cheeks and adds so much life to the face. I’m obsessed! Plus, this guy pairs so nicely with some of my other staple face products like Hoola Bronzer. This Benefit bronzer has been my Spring makeup go to for years! It’s perfect to bring out the warmer tones in my complexion as temperatures rise. I like to apply this with a bug fluffy brush all over the cheeks for a bronzed look.
Another long-time favorite of mine has reemerged in my Spring makeup bag this month. Mac Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle is my go-to highlighter for a subtle statement on the cheekbones. The golden champagne shimmer complements my yellow undertones so well. It also mimics a natural glow beautifully because the powder is so finely milled and it doesn’t contain any chunky glitter. No wonder it’s been one of my most reached for products for years.
During Springtime, I love playing around with color on the lips. Recently, I’ve been enjoying a more fresh look. I like smudging some pencil liner into the lips to accentuate the shape and throw on a nice balm on top like this Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. This way I can achieve the full pouty lip look I love while still going for a natural your lips but better color. For me, Spring lips are all about effortlessness and comfort. A grab and go vibe is exactly what I’m craving.
The change from Winter to Spring has to be one of my favorite times of year. I always feel so inspired with new energy and motivation. As you may have noticed from my last few posts, I’ve been on a huge skincare kick. I’ve made a goal of stripping down my beauty routine and narrowing down my products to only those that have made a real impact on my skin. No more filler products that add time to my routine. I really feel that these Spring makeup favorites are a good reflection of my embrace of a more minimalist and natural attitude.
