Although your daytime skincare can make an enormous difference on how your skin looks and feels and how your makeup wears throughout the day, it’s your nighttime routine that truly heals, repairs, and rejuvenates your skin. Throughout the night, your body works to repair any damage done from the day before on your skin. With products, you can help by feeding your skin all the ingredients it needs to better restore its healthy glow and prevent aging caused by daily wear-and-tear. I always start first with a cleanser because without a clean slate, your skin cannot properly absorb the products you are applying.
My first step in cleansing is removing all my makeup. I cannot stress enough the importance in this step and in removing EVERYTHING! By sleeping in makeup or not thoroughly cleansed skin, you are only impeding your skin’s healing process. You will wake up with clogged pores which have probably caused blemishes, a splotchy and uneven completion, and definitely not feeling clean and refreshed. My favorite product to take it all off, is Bioderma. I apply this makeup removing water to a cotton round and wipe it across my skin, initially focusing on the eye area. This removes everything for me, except for some waterproof mascaras. To remove those, I gently massage coconut oil into my lashes after cleansing with Bioderma. Unfortunately, Bioderma is not easily accessible in the US, but you can purchase it online at beautylish or purchase the drugstore dupe, Simple Miceller Cleansing water. I really believe in a thorough cleansing, so after removing all my makeup, I cleanse my face with Purity face wash. This pH balancing cleanser really goes the extra mile to completely clean my skin.
The order of the next few steps can often seam daunting, but I like to think of the products as being applied from light to heavy. Thus, I start off with my serum because this is the product that offers the most benefits to my skincare and should be the most easily absorbed. My Juice Beaty Antioxidant Serum has been my holy grail serum for the last two years. This product not only fights against aging, which isn’t my top priority yet, but also helps prevent acne and give evenness to your complexion. I call this product my skin food, because when I apply it, I feel that I am providing my skin with all the necessary ingredients to heal, protect, and rejuvenate. Next, I go in with my oils. If I have had any recent or current breakouts that have left their mark, I apply vitamin E oil to all those imperfections. This helps lighten and heal those scars. I then use my Tarte Maracuja Oil to provide further nourishing and moisturizing benefits. I like to think of this step as sealing in all the nourishing and repairing ingredients I have already applied to my skin. Although I have oily skin, I have found that using facial oils have helped reduce my oiliness by fighting oil with oil. This way you are replacing the oil produced by your skin that can clog pores and give you grease face throughout the day, with a healthy alternative.
Next, I apply my eye cream called Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Bright. This helps combat my dark circles and dry under-eye area by brightening and strengthening this fragile skin. After I have let my face oil absorb for a few minutes, I use a moisturizer. This step is really important because it reduces dryness and provides much needed moisture to the skin to help with overnight healing. At the moment, I have been loving the Korres Pomegranate Grenade Podi because this cream-gel formula leaves the face mattified which helps balance my oily and combination skin. It also has a nice and refreshing pomegranate scent. Lastly, I apply a heavy lip butter because my lips get very dry at night. My current favorite has been the Korres Lip Butter in Guava which is thick, hydrating and has a wonderful texture. After using this, I always wake up with healthy, moisturized, and soft lips.
If you are having particularly troubled skin, I recommend using a treatment product such as a mask. For breakouts, blemish-prone, or oily skin, I love the Lush Mask of Magnaminty. This green face mask has an incredible way of pulling all the gunk out of your pores. I apply about a tablespoon or two of it after wetting my face and leave it to dry for at least 15 minutes. It works the best when it has completely dried. This produce has little particles inside it that help exfoliate your skin when you remove it. I often use this mask as a spot treatment, especially when I get those horrible under the skin blemishes that hurt so badly. For hydration or to sooth irritated and unhappy skin, I love using the Origins Drink Up Intensive overnight mask. This delivers incredible moisture through avocado and Apricot Kernel oils which completely revive dehydrated skin. I often take a bit of this traveling with me because airplanes always make my skin so dry and irritated.
That’s all my nighttime skincare and treatment essentials. I do use a lot of products, but I have been using this this regime for about a year now and it has completely transformed my once problem skin.
