I’ve recently turned over a new leaf with my hair. I used to be the roll out of bed, quickly run a brush through my hair, and throw it up in a messy bun kind-of-girl, but over the last year, I’ve started to embrace the idea of styling my hair. This has definitely been a journey for me since hair has never been my strong suit. But as with anything, a little bit of practice can get you a long way. Thankfully, I’ve discovered some amazing hair products that have seriously made a difference in my haircare routine.
Kristin Ess first caught my eye last Summer. I was roaming the aisles of Target, which I do more often than I’d like to admit when I stumbled upon this beautifully curated and packaged, chic new line of haircare. Naturally, I was smitten, so I picked up two products that I thought I’d get the most use out of. Little did I know they’d soon become fast favorites and be some of the most used haircare products in my collection.
The best part about these Kristin Ess products is that they can be found in your local target and the whole line is between $10 and $14!
I’m a huge fan of leave-in conditioners and have been using them for as long as I can remember. Having long, color-treated hair, a leave-in conditioner is essential for protecting my hair from breakage and keeping it shiny, smooth, and frizz-free. Unfortunately, most of the leave-in conditioners I’ve tried are really heavy and tend to weigh down my hair, leaving it flat and lifeless. Well, that was until I discovered this beauty from Kristin Ess.
The Kristin Ess Leave-In Conditioner is unlike anything I’ve ever tried. It’s super lightweight, and I mean feather-weight. Even when I douse my hair in it, it never feels like my hair is weighed down. It also detangles like a dream. This is really important to me because preventing breakage is one of my top priorities. After I use this product, my hair dries super soft and shiny. It feels healthy, strong, and moisturized for days. Plus my split ends are nowhere in sight.
When I use this, I spray 10-15 sprays into towel-dried hair (the wetter the better). Then using a wet brush or wide-toothed comb, I gently comb through my hair, working from the ends up. This further prevents damaging your hair when it’s wet and fragile. I tend to avoid my roots, simply because my hair gets oily rather quickly, but I’ve never noticed this product having an effect on that. It’s just a habit of mine.
Also, this one bottle has lasted me since the Summer of 2017. I do only wash my hair twice a week, but seriously! That’s amazing seeing that I’m not even halfway finished with the bottle. It’s absolutely worth the $10.
Over the years, I’ve tried a number of texture sprays, the infamous Orbé Dry Spun Texturizing Spray as well as some from Not Your Mother’s, the Dry Bar, Batiste, and Living Proof to name a few. Some of these were great and some were not so impressive. Regardless, none of them were perfect. They were either too expensive for how fast I went through them or just blah.
Thankfully, Kristin Ess swooped in again to save the day. This is the only texturizing spray I’ve found that truly rivals Orbé and it’s only $14! It gives second-day grit and texture to first-day hair without being sticky, heavy, or crunchy. Plus, it smells amazing. This dry spray works perfectly to liven up second-day curls or to add some messy vibes to my hair when I’ve let it air dry and it’s looking a bit flat.
I use this texture spray the most to add some grit and hold when I braid my hair. This prevents flyaways, helping my braids last so much longer. Because it has a matte finish, I also use it after I curl my hair to make it look more lived in and messy. My favorite part about this spray is that it has hold, so your hair not only looks good just after you styled it, but also hours later.
Overall, I’m so happy with these Kristin Ess products. Since I picked these up, her line has kept expanding. Next on my agenda is to try out her shampoo, hair mask, beach spray, and air dry cream. The dry shampoo, working serum, and purple shampoo also sound amazing! Basically, I want to try everything. Looks like I’ve got a lot of testing to do, so look out for a Kristin Ess update soon!
