Light and Bright Summer Makeup

My Summer beauty routine can be incapsulated in one word…effortless. Through the heat and sweat and perhaps the sand and water, our makeup has to take on a lot during the Summer. So, after many attempts at wearing a “full face” of makeup, I finally ditched my heavy and thicker formulas for easy, painless products and I’ve really be loving it. Here are my summer beauty staples that have pasted the test.

Starting with the base, the Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation has been my holy grail. The coverage can range, but a little can go a long way. I usually apply a bit on each cheek and blend in circular motions outward toward my ear and jaw line. I use a kabuki style foundation brush, like sigma’s flat top kabuki or Real Techniques expert face brush, and blend, blend, blend! Then, I use the same technique on my forehead and chin. Afterwards, I go back and add a bit more coverage to my problem areas. I love this foundation in the compact form because I can throw it in my purse and make touchups on the go. Lately, I have been using a brightening concealer, like this Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, for my under-eye circles and to cover any discoloration on my eyelids. I also apply this down the bridge of my nose, around the corners of my nose, in between my eyebrows in a V-shape, and on my chin for extra coverage and brightening.

For my eyes, I have been loving the stila in the light palette. I either keep it really simple by applying kitten (champagne) or bubbly (gold) all over my lid with my finger or sometimes, I additionally throw a matte shade in my crease for some definition. I’ll line my outer lash-line with sandstone (dark matte brown) or ebony (black) and apply the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. This mascara, although the name is rather gawky, is amazing. It really gives me a false lashes effect. My lashes look full and long and very voluminous. I work two coats through my lashes, wiggling the brush in a Z motion and waiting for the first coat to dry before applying the second. At first I wasn’t too impressed with this mascara, but after playing with it for a few weeks, I realized all it needed was to age and dry out a bit before it started giving me the results that I wanted. The Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara does the same thing. Speaking of Tarte, I have been using their Amazonian Clay Colored Brow Gel to tame my eyebrows. This light gel formula adds the perfect amount of color, especially when you use the tip of the wand to fill in your sparse areas. The formula has a hold that allows my brows to look natural and a bit undone without looking wild.

I finish up my makeup routine with the Nivea A Kiss of Olive Oil and Lemon Lip Balm for moisture. I am not super picky about the lip balms I use during the day as long as they look good under lipstick/other lip products, are moisturizing, and smell nice. This one passed, so it has been my Summer handbag and vanity staple. Lastly, I have a facial spray by Mario Badescu. This Facial Spray with Allow, Herbs and Rosewater has been my perfect hot day face refresher. I throw it in my purse, my beach bag, and leave it on my desk for a mid day spritz and makeup revitalizer. It smells really fresh like roses and helps reawaken my face after the Summer heat has begun to melt me. It also works as a great toner to use under your moisturizer.

These are my staples that have pulled me through another hot Summer. What are yours?
