Holiday Nails

This season I had a lot of fun getting a bit creative with my nails. I have never been particularly talented in the nail department, so playing around with different colors and glitter was a little out of my comfort zone. But since I couldn’t resist the sparkle since it reminds me so much of the holidays, I decided to first get my nails done to see how to do it. It seamed pretty simple. I just applied two coats of my base color, the dark black-purple (Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI) or the red (Boudoir by Ciaté). Then, after wiping the excess glitter off the brush, I applied the glitter polish (Rock at the Top by Essie) in small coats. I mostly dapped the glitter on and moved the chunky pieces to where I wanted them. Lastly, I finished the look off with a clear top coat.

I painted these nails for a New Years Eve style. I placed the glitter at the top of the nail and tried to make a subtle gradient down the nail towards the tip with the more fine shimmer in the polish. I really liked this style because it looks really clean and it didn’t chip very easily.

For this style, I placed the gold glitter at the tip of the nail and used the more fine shimmer to paint a gradient up the nail towards the cuticle. I thought this was a really fun look, but you have to be committed to letting it dry for a long time. Since there are so many coats at the tip of your nail, it smudges easily.

These nail looks were so fun to create and they have inspired me to experiment some more with nail art.
