The french drugstores are legendary. Famous for their dedication to skincare and natural beauty, one can only imagine shelves full of incredible skin saving products. There is a certain something that draws us to the idea of a Parisian woman. Her sultry, classic, elegance is so perfectly undone and effortlessly beautiful that us foreigners dream of obtaining it. This romantic idea definitely accompanied me throughout my Fall in Paris, including my many moments combing through the different assortments of unknown french skincare brands and formulas found in their drugstores.
During some of my many adventures perusing these french skincare palaces, I managed to pick up some lovely goodies to spruce up my current routine. After using these guys for months, many of which are empty now, I thought I’d share my thoughts on some of my Parisan drugstore selections.
Bioderma Sensibo H2O: This is a product I’ve used for years now. It’s a micellar water, which means that it’s a clear, water-like liquid that effortlessly removes makeup and cleanses the skin. I enjoy using this to remove all my makeup in the evening and then finish off with a cleanser. I can’t confirm whether this is truly the best micellar water on the market, because I’ve never felt the need to try anything else (it’s that good). I’ve also tried their makeup wipes, which are great as well. This one is a definite winner!
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrè: This is a rich moisturizer and a makeup primer in one. It’s luxuriously moisturizing, but also absorbs quickly to create a beautiful base for makeup. It provides lasting hydration for the skin while adding to the longevity of your makeup. Winter must have for me.
Caudalie Vinosoure Moisturizing Mattifying Fluid: This is a daily moisturizer for oily skin. I enjoy using this in the morning especially on days where I want to use a light glowy base, but still don’t want my oil breaking though. It has a light moisturizing formula, making it ideal for Spring and Summer. This guy is perfect for holidays and vacations.
Caudalie Instant Detox Mask: This is a nice clay-based mask for purifying and detoxifying the skin. It does a great job of minimizing the pores and helping with congested skin. I like to use this as a weekly treatment. It didn’t make a big impact on blemishes, but it definitely helped to brighten my complexion.
Caudalie Make-Up Removing Cleansing Oil: I love the idea of a cleansing oil. They are one of my go to products for removing my makeup, especially when I take a bath. This one is has a nice smell and removes every bit of makeup. I do follow it up with a cleanser though, because otherwise it can leave a bit of a residue on the skin.
Caudalie Instant Foaming Cleanser: This is a nice refreshing cleanser, perfect for those on the go. I enjoyed using this product the most in the morning, because it’s so easy to wash away. It’s also great to throw in your gym bag for a post-workout refresh. I like that it is super gentle and removes eye makeup residue that may have made an appearance overnight. Really nice product.
Marvis Jasmine Mint Toothpaste: I always pick up a tube of this stuff anytime I go to Europe. I like the formula and they have a lot of really unique flavors. This particular one wasn’t my top favorite. Jasmine is a bit unusual for a toothpaste, but if you’re into floral scents you’ll probably like this one. I love the cinnamon one though!
SVR Rubailine SPF 50: This is a sunscreen that is formulated to help calm redness prone skin. It works to combat the burning sensation caused by sun sensitivity. The formula is typical for a sunscreen and the odor isn’t strong. I apply this when I expect to be in the sun for long periods of time. The formula absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any sticky or oily residue on the face like many other sunscreens which is nice.
After testing out a generous amount of french skincare, I feel that I can finally confirm that the french really do know what their talking about. Their packaging is classic, their formulas effective, and their lines are diverse. All different skin needs can be met by the diversity of products found in Parisian drugstores. Through all my experimenting, I’ve found many winners that have become fast favorites in my skincare collection.
