February is a bit of a confusing month, especially if you live in LA. We had days that reached 82 degrees and others that cooled down to a chilly 50. With my makeup this month, I felt like I had to be prepared for anything, whether is was a beach day or sweater weather. As I look back, there were definitely a few shining stars within my collection that really helped pull me through this crazy month.
– Face –
One of my all-time favorites products is the radiant creamy concealer by NARS. This product is a life saver for those of you who have dark circles like me. The coverage is fantastic and the creamy texture never creases or clings to the slightly drier skin under my eyes. I wear the shade vanilla and I apply this in an upside down triangle, starting from the corner of my eye and sweeping it all the way to my temple. This technique gives a beautiful highlighting and lifting effect that can help boost your tired eyes, especially for those of us who haven’t been sleeping well lately (Thank you midterms!). Also, because of its natural finish, I apply this concealer everywhere on my face, from blemishes to those pesky red areas around your nose and chin.
The Fresh Soy Face Cleaner has been a skin saving product for me this month. This cleanser is strong enough to remove all my makeup, even liquid eye liner and mascara, but gentle enough not to strip your skin and remove its essential moisture that’s so important during these harsh winter months. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes at all and, after I use it, I feel very fresh and clean but not tight and dry. If you like roses, this cleanser is for you because it smells absolutely wonderful!
I finally jumped on the bandwagon and purchased the MAC mineralized skin finish natural over the holiday season and as I anticipated, I love it! The powder is light with a natural finish, so you don’t get that very matte “I just powdered look”. I usally use it to set my t-zone after applying foundation, but if I’m going for a minimal makeup look, it has nice coverage when applied with a dense brush. The new packaging with the mirror makes it perfect to throw in your handbag for touchups on the go.

The Tarte Lights, camera, Lashes mascara has been frequenting my makeup bag for a few months now. I knew it had become a staple in my routine when my first tube began drying out. I began using a different mascara, but soon realized I couldn’t live without my voluminous lashes. This Tarte mascara truly gives me the thickness and volume in my lashes that I have been obsessing over lately. It also doesn’t smudge or smear on my lids, another blessing those with oily skin like me would agree with. Overall, this is a fantastic mascara that I haven’t been able to give up.
Because I am a natural blond, I feel that my eyebrows can always use some extra help. After all, they do frame your face, so I think it’s important to give those guys some TLC. This last month, I have been loving Benefit’s Gimme Brow. This tinted brow gel helps fill in my sparse areas and the tiny fibers in the gel help thicken my brows and keep them in place all day. I like to brush through my brows with a brow comb to shape them first. When applying the brow gel, I first start at my arch and sweep down the tail of the brow, since the most product will be placed on that first swipe and I like my brow’s arch and tail to be the most bold. Then I brush through the rest of the brow. On those days when I don’t feel like going through the whole penciling in your brows routine, which, lets face it, is most days, the Gimme Brow brow gel is perfect. Oh and by the way, I wear the shade medium/light.
Over the month of February, I took a break from my classic cat eye liner look and traded it for something softer. Most days I either lined my eyes with a pencil or shadow for more blurred and subtle definition. I reached for Urban Decay’s Glide on Eye Pencil in Bourbon the most to achieve this look. My favorite way to wear this liner is with an everyday light peachy, pinky, or champagne shimmery eyeshadow all over the lid and a soft matte brown in the crease. With the pencil, I line my top and bottom water lines, then draw a thin line on my upper lash line and smudge it out gently with my finger. I finish it off with a good coat of mascara. This has been one of my favorite ways to effortlessly achieve definition around your eyes.
– Hands –
Since the last month has been so dry, I feel like I have been going through hand creams like crazy. I tend to get very dry hands in the winter and Bliss’s high intensity Hand cream has been my go to for dryness relief. It has a nice subtle scent and a very rich and creamy texture that quickly absorbs into your hands, so you don’t have greasy feeling hands. This cream has really helped me keep my hands smooth and soft and my cuticles nice and moisturized. It travels with me everywhere and sadly I’ve almost used it all up!
I’ve been eyeing the blue nail polish trend for a while but was never brave enough to test it out until my roommate was painting her nails with this UO Classics Collection nail polish and insisted I use it too. It was like love at first sight! I think this is one of the most flattering statement nail colors I have ever used! I applied it three times in a row before I realized that I had to have it myself; so I ran out and bought the nail polish at Urban Outfitters in the same color, blue velvet. If I had to describe February in a color, this would be it!
Smith’s Rosebud Salve has been in my beauty bag for ages, but it really comes in handy in the winter. I feel like everything gets chapped in the winter, your hands, lips, cuticles, and nose especially if you have a cold. Unluckily for me, I went through two rounds of colds this month, so this salve really helped me heal my sore and painful nose and lips. I also really love using this stuff over my lip products to add moisture and shine. It looks just like a lip gloss. One thing to think about is that if you’re any kind of a germaphobe, I really recommend getting the squeezy tube version of this stuff. Dipping and re-dipping your finger into this product can sometimes gross me out. Otherwise, it’s fantastic!
– Lips –
Other than events or special occasions, I have been wearing more muted and simple lip colors this month and what’s more simple then lip crayons? For my day lip color, I have worn Clinique’s Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry almost every day. This moisturizing balm gives a sheer wash of color with a glossy finish that looks almost like your lip color but better. It’s effortless to apply and always looks good, no matter your lips’ condition, because it’s a tinted balm and an amazing moisturizer. I hardly have needed any chapstick since using this product. Sometimes I wear the Smith’s Rosebud Salve over the top of this balm because I think I gives a really nice and even glossier finish.
Another lip crayon I have been loving is the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Sultry. I think the formula of this lip stick is so unique because it’s a creamy matte. The finish is definitely matte, but the texture is nice and smooth and it doesn’t dry out your lips which is awesome for those of us who love the longevity of a matte lipstick but not the dryness. This lip crayon is so easy to throw in your purse and can help transition your makeup from day to night with a bolder lip statement. It’s also affordable so you can enjoy this amazing lip stick in every color!
