I have to say, Fall is my favorite time of year. By the end of Summer, I am craving a change in weather and with it a change in wardrobe. I have always felt that autumnal hues seem to suit me. I love cranberries, burgundies, burnt orange, and olive shades and all of those warm and cosy shades that make me think of warm hot chocolate, snuggly mittens and fire places. Unfortunately, since moving to Los Angeles, I’ve had to imagine what Fall feels like, since it’s currently mid October and it’s a steamy 90 degrees, which simply baffles me. Recently, I have been surviving by living through Pinterest fall fashion, drinking hot tea within air-conditioned buildings, and counting down until I head to colder climates during Thanksgiving. Regardless, one autumn thing that the weather can’t stop me from doing is wearing Fall inspired makeup looks. So cheers to Fall and my endless love of lipsticks.
When I think of Fall makeup, the first thing that comes to mind is berry hues. Whether it’s incorporating cranberry colors in my eyeshadow or sporting reds on my lips, I always seam to gravitate to these colors. Firstly, when it comes to the Holiday season, which I know, I’m getting ahead of myself, but really who doesn’t start anticipating early, I always love a good red shade. My all-time favorite red lipstick is Nars Audacious Lipstick in the color Rita. This smooth, rich formula is truly stunning. It wears for hours and is such a statement. This cool-tone red has been a long time favorite of mine because I feel like you can truly wear it with anything. It’s my perfect throw in my purse color for a day-to-night makeup transition. But keep in mind, this is a bit of a high maintenance shade, so I tend to line the outside of my lips with concealer before applying it to prevent smudging. My other go to red is a bit more berry toned. This beautiful drugstore lipstick is by Rimmel and in the color 107. This color is so easy to wear and I love how inexpensive it is. It’s more of a rich berry tone than Nars Rita, but I still consider it in my red lip color collection. It’s also nice because you can go for a stain-like finish and only apply a little or go all out for more drama.
My favorite daytime shades are definitely MAC Syrup and Bite Beauty Rhubarb. MAC Syrup is a light berry toned lipstick that I can easily throw on whenever, whether I’m running out the door for errands or going out to dinner. When I think of Autumn, I think of Syrup and it’s definitely my most worn Fall essential lipstick. Bite Beauty Rhubarb is less purple than Syrup and a bit more red. It has a matte finish and is one of those neutral lipsticks that can still make a statement. This product is really easy to apply and I feel no guilt using it, because it is made of all natural, food-grade ingredients.
If I’m going for a more dramatic look, I chose from these MAC favorites. My brightest and boldest berry shade is definitely MAC Rebel. I enjoy this color because it is a bit convertible. If you use a dark purple lip liner, this shade will appear like a deep, rich orchid shade. Without a lip liner, the color is a bright pinky-purple. This color is a lot of fun and one of my go-to colors for a girls night out with friends. The MAC sheen supreme lipstick in Quite the Thing is another fun shade. This bright purple is similar to Rebel, but more pinky. The formula is a cross between a lipstick and lip balm texture, but with the finish of a lip gloss, so it looks beautiful on and is super easy and comfortable to wear and apply. Although it looks a bit intimidating at first, this is another fun shade to throw in your purse for a effortless statement look. Lastly, MAC Private Party is another Fall favorite of mine. This color is my go-to for a sophisticated look. It’s natural enough to pair with an evening smokey eye and bold enough to wear as a statement lip to work. This shade pairs beautifully with my olive and burgundy Fall wardrobe. And being a satin finish, it’s long wearing but still very comfortable.
All-in-all, these are my favorite lipsticks for Autumn. I hope you enjoy and are inspired to branch out in your Fall lipstick wardrobe.
