Over the last few weeks, I have been picking up a few new drugstore products here and there to try out. I love trying new things, especially testing out the formulas in the drugstore because who doesn’t like to find new inexpensive loves. So here’s a little haul and review of the products I’ve purchased.
Firstly, towards the end of the 2015, I was hearing a lot about this new primer from the drugstore. This product was supposed to dramatically extend the wear of your makeup, control oil, and create a even texture base for foundation. This primer is actually the Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm. I have to admit, I was a bit weirded out by the idea of using an after shave on my face. Well, I’m a woman, so obviously I don’t shave my face, so I wasn’t sure how my skin would react to an after shave? I mean what is even in an after shave and why would it help keep makeup on? After doing some research on its ingredients, I learned that glycerin, the second ingredient in this product, is a common ingredient used in makeup and primers to help makeup stick to the skin. Glycerin is actually a chemical found naturally in the skin and is a skin repairing ingredient that protects your skin’s natural barrier (see more here).
After hearing this, I was pretty excited to give this product a shot and I’m so happy I did. I am in LOVE with this product as a face primer. It’s a great smooth base to foundation. It keeps my makeup on all day, I mean literally from when I apply in the morning well into the evening. It keeps my oil production under control, though sometimes I will powder my t-zone for more coverage and a matte finish if I have plans that evening. What I love about this primer is that for the first time ever, I have been able to wear a glowy foundation without looking like an oily mess. I have been wearing this non-stop since I bought it and it has quickly replaced my Cover FX and Makeup forever mattifying primers, which I haven’t reached for in a week now. So, yes, I’ve been pretty happy with this product and I highly recommend it.
The next thing I purchased was the L’Oréal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation. This product (as seen below) is a liquid foundation with a cushion-sponge-like applicator. I apply this with my beauty blender by lightly tapping into the foundation-soaked cushion and applying it to my face. Watch out because this stuff is pigmented and a little goes a long way. What I like about this foundation is that it is so easy to apply. I don’t use the pad it comes with to apply it, because I much prefer the beauty blender since it applies the foundation very smoothly and lightly. This is a light coverage foundation that you can build up to medium where you need it. I wear the shade N2. I also like that this foundation is glowy, but not dewy, without being shimmery. It gives a really natural lit from within look that an oily person like me can wear without looking like a greasy mess. I’ve been very happy with this foundation, especially paired with the Nivea primer.
The last drugstore product I’ve been trying out is the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor. This lip product is Revlon’s new version of a liquid lipstick. It’s applicator is similar to a lipgloss, so it’s really easy to apply. The applicator tappers towards the end which I like because it gives you a lot of precision when applying. The formula is smooth and creamy, but not super hydrating. A drier formula is expected from a liquid lipstick, so I would recommend applying a lip balm first. This formula of liquid lipstick doesn’t give me that gross white line on the inside of my lips which is great! It’s a full coverage formula, but looks best with two coats. I have the color Seduction, which I love, but the one thing I am disappointed with by this product, is that the color range is not very exciting. I would have liked to see more nudes and wearable tones instead of so many bold statement shades. Other than that, I really like it!
Overall, I have been loving these new products I picked up from the drugstore and would highly recommend all of them!
