Best of Beauty: 2017 Makeup Favorites

Best of Beauty: 2017 Makeup Favorites | A La Gray

2017 was the year of rediscovering old favorites. I didn’t do as much shopping for makeup as I have in years past. I think this was primarily because half the year I was really happy with my makeup organization so I could finally enjoy and easily explore my entire collection. The other half of the year I was in moving limbo so I could only access a small portion of my collection. This was definitely frustrating, but at least I was able to narrow down my top performing beauty products since I was working out of a single makeup bag (a beauty blogger’s worst nightmare!).

You may recognize many of these products because I’ve raved about most of them before, but there are a couple of newbies. So watch out for these fresh new favorites.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

This product hasn’t left my everyday makeup bag since Fall 2016. It provides perfect medium coverage with a natural yet glowy finish that lasts all day long without deteriorating in my oily t-zone. With an enormous range of over 30 shades, everyone can find their perfect match. When I don’t know what base to wear, I always choose L’Oreal True Match.

Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua Foundation

This is another longtime favorite of mine. I first discovered this in high school, but it took a few years and a skin care transformation to really fall in love with this one. This light coverage, very natural base is perfect for an everyday foundation. When I’m looking for just a bit of coverage to create an even tone to my complexion, I go for this foundation. A huge plus is that it works for all skin types and ages. It’s even my mom’s favorite foundation as well!

Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer

I discovered this concealer this Summer. Suffering from intense dark circles, I’m always on the hunt for full coverage concealers. If you read my blog, you probably know that the Nars Creamy Concealer has been a favorite of mine for years. This Soft Matte concealer has even more coverage! Don’t let the word matte freak you out. I use it all over my face, even under my eyes for a flawless look. It’s amazing!

RCMA No Color Powder

This has been my go-to face powder for all of 2017. I like to use this powder to set my undereye concealer and anywhere else my foundation tends to move. My favorite way to apply it is with a damp beauty blender. This technique keeps my undereye concealer looking fresh and flawless all day long. Now I can’t live without this powder!

Tanya Burr Face Illuminator

This is hands down my favorite liquid face illuminizer I’ve tried! The light peachy-champagne color is perfect for my warm skin tone. It’s also an amazing multi-tasking product. When my skin is looking lackluster, I mix it in with my foundation. Looking for a little glow, I tap it on my cheekbones. Feeling a bit tired, I pop it on the inner corner of my eye. Basically, it’s healthy, glowing skin in a bottle.

Nars Blush in Goulue

This is another product I haven’t been able to get enough of since 2016. Firstly, the formulation of Nars blushes is amazing. They are pigmented, yet blendable, and seriously long-wearing. I love the color Goulue in particular because on my skin tone it looks like a deep natural flush. It looks great all year round but is perfect for Fall and Winter because it mimics the natural rosy glow your cheeks get in the cold. I’m such a fan!

YSL Faux Cils Mascara

I was in a serious, committed relationship to this mascara for all of 2017. L’Oreal Paradise, good try, but nothing looked as good as this mascara does. It gives serious volume while keeping lashes looking natural and fluttery. The formula also seems to only get better with time! Plus the packaging is just gorgeous. If it wasn’t for the price tag I’d be buying a new one of these guys every couple of months.

EcoBrow Eyebrow Defining Wax

This is a newer addition to my makeup collection. If I could pick one thing I don’t like to do each morning, that would be my brows. But since getting bangs, filling in my brows has become a critical step in my makeup routine. Unfortunately, many conventional brow products make me breakout and cause ingrown hairs in my brows, so this Summer I decided to go for an all natural alternative. I couldn’t be happier. This Ecobrow pomade makes filling in my brows so easy. It’s super blendable, so all I have to do is define the bottom of my eyebrow and blend upward with a spoolie. That’s it! Plus it lasts all day. What else could I ask for?

Urban Decay Naked2 Basics  Palette

Whether I’m going for drama or just a little definition, I always reach for this Naked2 Basics palette. Full of creamy, blendable neutral matte browns, this palette is perfect for taking any look from day to night. I love using the darkest shade as eyeliner and throwing one of the mid-tone brows into my crease for daytime. This look pairs perfectly with a bold lip. I also often use it for a smokey eye because the dark shades are so blendable. This palette is my most used palette in my entire collection and worth every penny.

If you’re looking to expand your makeup collection, every single one of these products is so worth it! I’ve repurchased the majority of these again and again, and I imagine they’ll continue to be well loved throughout 2018. Hopefully, this post helped you discover some new favorites of your own.
